Lead Maintenance Custodian

DESCRIPTION 

The Lead Maintenance Custodian (LMC) performs and oversees various cleaning, maintenance and repair functions for the building/grounds. Oversight includes assigning, coordinating, and evaluating the work of custodial/maintenance staff and contractors. The LMC supports staff and teachers in set-up/maintenance of furniture/equipment, and in cleaning rooms for daily operation and special events. The LMC plays an essential role in creating a safe, clean, comfortable, and healthy learning environment that promotes academic excellence and school pride. The LMC serves as a role model to scholars by displaying a strong work ethic, professionalism, integrity, and a courteous and helpful nature.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the selection, assignment, scheduling, and training, of members of the custodial staff.
  • Plans, executes and oversees custodial work performed by internal staff
  • Coordinates maintenance/repair work performed by outside contractors
  • Maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in performance of work tasks
  • Tracks inventory and requests new orders of job related materials and supplies
  • Oversees and/or performs the following:
    • Cleaning (sweeps, mops, waxes) floors; cleaning carpet, upholstery and furniture
    • Washing of windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls, and ceilings.
    • Cleaning/sanitizing of rest rooms; collection and disposal of waste
    • Opens and secures building and rooms to ensure timely program operations and the safety of scholars and staff
    • Set-up, take down, or move equipment and furniture for classes, meetings, and events
    • Keeping outside premises in an orderly condition, including routine landscaping and lawn care.
    • Routine maintenance and minor repairs to building and building systems; routine carpentry work.
  • Performs related work as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in custodial, building maintenance or general labor.
  • Demonstrated skill in operation of hand tools and custodial and maintenance equipment
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
  • Experience in supervision or leading a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in carpentry, electrical wiring, HVAC and/or plumbing systems
  • Experience working in schools
