Custodian (Central Admin)

DESCRIPTION 

Under general supervision, the Custodian performs various cleaning, maintenance and repair functions for the building/grounds. The position directly supports staff and teachers in set up and maintenance of furniture and equipment, and in cleaning rooms for daily operation and special events. The Custodian plays an essential role in creating a safe, clean, comfortable, and healthy learning environment that promotes academic excellence and school pride. The Custodian serves as a role model for scholars by displaying a strong work ethic, professionalism, integrity, and a courteous and helpful nature.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Cleans (sweeps, mops, waxes) floors; cleans carpet, upholstery and furniture.
  • Washes windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls, and ceilings.
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms; collects and disposes of waste.
  • Opens and secures building and rooms to ensure timely program operations and the safety of scholars and staff.
  • Set-up, take down, or move equipment and furniture for classes, meetings, and events.
  • Keep outside premises in an orderly condition, including routine landscaping and lawn care.
  • Provides routine maintenance and minor repairs to building and building systems; may perform routine carpentry work.
  • Performs related work as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated skill in operation of hand tools and custodial and maintenance equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year experience in custodial, building maintenance or general labor.
  • Background in carpentry, electrical wiring, HVAC and/or plumbing systems
  • Experience working in schools
