Food Server / Cook (Central Admin)


Responsible preparing and serving school meals in compliance with the school nutrition and funded programs. Perform activities related to setting up serving areas. Perform point of sale transactions for food items. Track supply inventory and student meal counts. Maintain cleanliness of food service facilities. Any other responsibilities not specifically stated herein but pertain to ensuring healthy meals in a clean environment.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Follows the Nutrition manager’s instruction in preparing, storing, and serving food to meet federal and state nutritional standards.
  • Interprets menus to insure that nutrition and portion standards are met.
  • Prepare food in large quantities without constant reference to written recipes, and in a manner that accounts for food allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Maintain required forms and records as assigned by manager.
  • Maintain work areas and serving areas in a clean, sanitary and safe condition; wash and clean counters and steam tables; wash and store pots, pans, trays and kitchen equipment.
  • Assist in storing unused food and supplies; dispose of unusable leftovers and garbage.
  • Operate a variety of standard kitchen equipment such as a cash register, dishwasher, and ovens; report faulty equipment as necessary.
  • If needed, assist with tasks related to cash management and food sales (counting, stocking register, collecting payments for food sales, etc.)
  • Ensure appropriate amount, use, and storage of food service supplies including food trays, utensils, condiments, etc.
  • Assist with ordering food and supplies, stocking shelves and cleaning storeroom.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience cooking/preparing nutritious, high quality meals for large numbers of people.
  • A love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day.
  • Familiarity with safe food preparation and food storage.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic math skills (for measurement, reading recipes, making accurate change).
  • Experience cooking in a school setting.
  • High School Diploma.
  • ServSafe Certified.
