Dear Parents.

The following is this week's parent update.

Field Trips
Depending on grade level, parents should see notices coming home soon about field trips being planned for the remainder of the calendar year.  We also want to take this time to apologize to Upper School parents about the way our prior Go Fish trip was implemented.  Due to internal miscommunication, we were not as prepared as we should have been.  This led to a great deal of confusion about when the trip was going to occur, who was able to attend and why. We know that several families were upset that their scholars did not attend as a result of that confusion.  We are therefore planning a December trip to Go Fish for scholars who missed the opportunity the first time and whose conduct record suggests they are mature enough to attend.

Technology
Our technology vendor will be setting up our new Chromebooks this coming week. They should be available for teacher/scholar use next week.

Parent Support Committee (PSC)
The PSC will have a meeting this coming Friday, November 3 at 4:30 p.m.  Please see flyer for details.  Parents can post any questions to the Lower or Upper School Genesis Parents Facebook Groups (see Parent Update tab on the website for how to join the group).

Click here to access flyer for the meeting

Uniforms – Part I
If your scholar tells you it is okay for him/her to dress down, but you have not gotten an official notice from a teacher or your school leader, please be cautious and have them come in their regular uniform. Parents will be contacted to bring the proper uniform for any scholar not appropriately dressed. Scholars out of uniform may be denied privileges or docked points, depending on their grade or teacher.

Uniforms – Part II
As the weather gets colder, the Genesis sweater or Genesis fleece or a solid gray or solid black sweater are an acceptable extra layer to be worn inside the school building.  For P.E., solid gray or black sweats are acceptable. No stripes or patterns are acceptable.  Winter coats can be any style or color but scholars will not be allowed to wear winter coats inside the building.

Book Fair
The Genesis Book Fair is ongoing. If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair at scholastic.com/fair. Our Online Fair is available from October 23, 2017 to November 10, 2017. Remember, all purchases benefit our school.

Thank you for your time and attention to these matters.  Have a great week.

The following information was emailed 10/14/17:

JOIN the GENESIS PARENTS COMMUNITY ON FACEBOOK!

Because we are four schools in one community the Genesis Parent Support Facebook communications is divided into three efforts.

- Genesis Parents Facebook profile: Is one-way communication to share out information pertinent to
ALL parents for parent support activities. This profile is not for discussions (discussions take place in the closed groups), but is only information shared out for parent support.
(https://www.facebook.com/genesis.parents.52) Please send a friend request.  Open to the public.

- Lower School Parents Facebook Group: Is a closed group for those GIA parents wanting to keep up  with and discuss the latest and greatest of GIA Lower school activities inside and outside.

- Upper School Parents Facebook Group: Is a closed group for those GIA parents wanting to keep up
with and discuss the latest and greatest of GIA Upper School activities inside and outside of the school day. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/UPPERPARENTS4GIA/)

FAQ:
1.  Q:  Can I join the Lower School Group even if I only have a child in the Upper School or vice versa?
A:  Yes.  If you are a GIA parent you have access to either group as you desire.

2.  Q:  Can we have just one parent support Facebook group for all of GIA?
A: We could, but there will be many topics that may only pertain to one school or the other and the desire was to keep the discussions germane to the Lower/Upper Schools respectively. Once our first class reaches 9th grade we will then introduce a group for the high school.

3.  Q:  Are there ground rules for the groups' discussions?
A:  Yes.  Please read the "Description" in the group.

4.  Q:  Who are the admins for the Facebook Profile and the Groups?
A: This social media effort is strictly for parents of GIA in support of GIA. At any given time,
there should always be 2-3 non-related parents that are admins. Current admins are Quincy Jordan,
Mia Glenn, and looking for a third:)

5.  Q:  Why do we have a separate Parent Facebook from GIA School Facebook?
A: The Parent Facebook effort is for school-sponsored and parent sponsored information and activities;
either joint or independent. Activities not sponsored by the school such as play dates,
parent/family meetups, out of school outing suggestions, and the like will not be a liability of
the school.

6.  Q:  If I have suggestions or questions about the GIA Parents Facebook Community who should I ask?
A: We are all volunteers and ask that we are considerate of that toward each other. Please message
admin type questions to the group/profile admin.  Otherwise, feel free to direct your questions to
the group, chances are someone else in the group has the answer to your question...we are a
community:)

7.  Q:  Does the GIA know about this Facebook effort?
A:  Yes. This has been discussed with GIA leadership and they are in full support.

The following information was emailed 10/1/17:

Dear Parents,

Below are updates from Genesis Innovation Academy:

Scholar of the Month – Thank you to Directors Dees and Christian, parent volunteers, and Genesis teachers and staff for pulling together our first Scholar of the Month breakfast celebration this past Friday.  We will continue to introduce additional ways to celebrate those who excel.

Volunteer Opportunities – Look for a separate e-mail regarding volunteer opportunities later this week.

Early Dismissal – Parents should not expect Genesis to process early dismissals for any scholar in grades K-6 after 2:15 p.m. due to the demands on staff time at the end of the day.  Staff will try to accommodate emergencies to the best of their ability. Parents requiring early dismissal should call the front office prior to coming to the campus so that staff is aware.

Regular Dismissal & Pick-up – Parents should be reminded that scholars are to be picked up no later than 30 minutes after dismissal.  Scholars in grades K-3 are dismissed at 3:00 p.m. and should be picked up by 3:30 p.m.  A $1.00 per minute fee will be charged beginning at 3:31 p.m.  Grades 4-6 are dismissed at 4:00 and should be picked up by 4:30 p.m.  The $1.00 fee for grades 4-6 begins at 4:31 p.m.  Scholars in K-3 who have older siblings can be placed free of charge in “sibling care” until 4:00 p.m.  Scholars in grades K-3 who do not have siblings will be charged a late fee beginning at 3:31 p.m.

Uniforms – All scholars should be in uniform.  Prestige Apparel should be able to accommodate all requests. 6th-grade scholars are to be in white oxfords unless they are allowed to dress down on a Friday. Dress down days are being used by each school and grade level in different ways.  You will get announcements from your scholar’s teacher or teacher-team if your scholar is able to dress down on a Friday.  Unless that announcement is made, all scholars should be in regular uniform (Class A).  Also, only blue jeans without rips or holes are acceptable for dress down days.  Parents will be called to bring appropriate uniforms when scholars are not in compliance. Please contact Kim Samms at ksamms@giacademy.org if you need assistance with obtaining uniforms.  Also, please send a note to your scholar’s homeroom teacher if there is a reason for them being out of uniform.

Please click here to visit the uniform page where you can view and download your scholars' uniform requirements.

Labeling Scholar Items – Parents should label their scholars clothing items, lunch boxes, pencil cases, etc., with their names or initials. It makes it a lot easier to return items that are misplaced or left behind.

Borrowing/Selling items – Parents should strongly encourage their scholars not to lend to, or borrow items from, other scholars unless the teacher is fully aware. Teacher awareness helps in the event that there is a disagreement as to who an item ultimately belongs to.  Selling items is not allowed at this time.  We hope to coordinate with select teachers and parent volunteers on hosting a regular student “marketplace” for scholars to be able to sell items.  Scholars will be required to have a business plan/proposal approved before they can sell.

Pencils / Pouches – It is strongly recommended that scholars come to school with more than one pencil and more than one pen. Too many scholars are coming to school and asking for a pencil during the first period of the day because they did not have one, or they only had ONE and they lost it.  It is also strongly recommended that the pencils be placed in a storage box or pouch with their name on it.

Dear Parents,

Curriculum Nights
Upper School Curriculum Nights were rescheduled due to the effects of Hurricane Irma.  The new schedule is below:
  • Genesis Academy Boys Curriculum Night – Tuesday, September 19, 2017 @ 6 p.m.
  • Genesis Academy Girls Curriculum Night – Wednesday, September 20, 2017 @ 6 p.m.

Power School
Parents, we have notified the technical support department within PowerSchool regarding the inability to create an account to access grades for your scholar. PowerSchool has apologized for this inconvenience and are working diligently to address the issues. In the meantime, you can still access your grades without actually creating your own account. If you have received your scholar’s PowerSchool Access Letter from Curriculum Night, you can follow these instructions to access the grades.
  1. Go to https://giacademy.powerschool.com/public
  2. At the bottom of the letter, find your scholar’s confidential ID and password
  3. Type the ID into the Username box and the Password in the Password box
  4. Once you hit enter, you will see your scholar’s most up-to-date grades
  5. By clicking on the actual numerical grade, you can see all assignments that contribute to the overall grade

For students in the Upper Schools, you will be receiving your PowerSchool Access Letter on Tuesday (Boys’ Academy) and Wednesday (Girls’ Academy) of next week.

Once PowerSchool rectifies the issues with creating parent accounts, you will be able to set notification updates. For example, parents can have PowerSchool immediately notify them by e-mail if any new grades are entered. Similarly, parents can opt to receive a snapshot of their scholar’s gradebook on a daily basis. A new letter will be sent home as soon as the system is ready to go.

If you continue to have problems, please contact Mr. Neal Christian at nchrsitian@giacademy.org for assistance.

Soccer
We have attached a follow-up announcement about soccer from Christie Ehrhardt of the Southern Soccer Academy (SSA) of Dekalb.  If you have any questions about what is below, please contact Ms. Ehrhardt at cehrhardt@ssaelite.com  or by phone at (630) 202-0810.

The following information was emailed and sent home with students 9/12/17:

Dear Parents,

Unfortunately, the storm has knocked out power to the neighborhood surrounding Genesis. In fact, a power line is down right in front of the exit from the school’s parking lot.  Georgia Power cannot guarantee when the power will be back on. There is also downed trees and debris around the campus which have to be removed.

As a result, school is canceled for tomorrow, Wednesday, September 13, 2017.

Curriculum Night for the Girls 4th – 6th grade is rescheduled for the following Wednesday, September 20.

A decision on the Curriculum Night for Boys 4th – 6th grades will be made tomorrow as more information is known.

Thank you for your patience as we work through the fallout from Hurricane Irma.

The following flyer was sent home with students on 8/27/17:

The following email was sent out 8/27/17:

Dear Parents,

Updates for 8/27/17:

Parent Check-In / Teacher Meetings – We are reminding parents to check-in at the front desk and get a visitor’s badge if they are volunteering or if they have a meeting with a teacher.  We also ask that parents set up appointments with teachers if they would like a face to face meeting. Please do not attempt to drop in on a teacher before or after school without an appointment. Appointments are the best way to ensure that the teacher has set aside the time to address any questions or concerns a parent may have.

Curriculum Night – During curriculum night, teachers will provide an overview of academic/curriculum goals and expectations for their classes. All curriculum night sessions will begin at 6 p.m. on the Genesis campus.  The schedule is as follows:
  • September 6th – Girls Lower School
  • September 7th – Boys Lower School
  • September 13th – Girls Upper School
  • September 14th – Boys Upper School

Uniforms – Reminder that September 5th is the deadline for all scholars to be in uniform. If parents have any issues with uniform purchases they should contact the main office.

Family Handbook – The Genesis Handbook is posted to the school’s website. Please review and reference as needed.  We will be reviewing the Code of Conduct with scholars this week.

Fire Alarm – Parents on site during dismissal on Friday, August 25th, would have noticed scholars outside for what appeared to be a fire drill. Unfortunately, the fire alarm was accidentally tripped at the end of the day.  Our teachers did a great job of following procedures and getting our scholars out of the building to designated wait areas as if there was a real fire. THANK YOU TEACHERS!

Soccer – Christie Ehrhardt of the Southern Soccer Academy (SSA) in Dekalb is prepared to offer soccer for Genesis scholars based on interest.  Practice is planned for one day a week at Benteen Park: 3:30 for scholars in grades k-3 and 4:30 p.m. for grades 4-6.  Games would be held on Saturdays.  Interested parents should contact Ms. Ehrhardt at cehrhardt@ssaelite.com for more details.

Hello Parents

A couple updates:

Uniforms
Please see our website for concessions being offered by French Toast / School Box for the uniform inconvenience we have all been experiencing.  An email was sent out last week with this information but just in case you missed it, click here.

Local Uniform Vendor
As promised, Prestige Apparel, located in Green Briar Mall, has come aboard to try to assist us with our uniform needs.  They are in the process of ordering more french toast polos and oxfords which they will embroider with our logo.
Additionally, If you have purchased plain purple or gold french toast polos, Prestige will embroider our logo on your shirt for only $5.00 plus tax.  They also have a limited supply of french toast gray pants and shorts for the elementary grades.

And finally, parents will also be able to purchase PE uniforms for both boys and girls from Prestige as well.

Chinese After School
Any Family with a scholar at the YCT level 3 or 4 is welcomed to join an advanced Mandarine class being offered after school at Genesis.  Please email ksamms@giacademy.org with a subject line of  'Chinese', by Friday, August 25th,  if you are interested in having your scholar participate. The class will be offered by Tongxing Chinese Academy after school 2 to 3 times a week from 4:10 to 5:10 pm.  The cost will be approximately $18.00 per session.

The number of sessions per week is still yet to be determined.  Interested families will be contacted to discuss the details once the level of interest is determined.

When emailing, please indicate which academy your scholar attends (Girls Academy or Boys Academy), their Grade, the number of years studying Mandarin or level of YCT most recently completed.  Please note: this initial offering of Mandarin is an Advanced level of study.  A beginner class may be offered later in the school year if there is an interest.

Thank you, as always for choosing Genesis Innovation Academy.

The following email was sent out 8/16/17:

Dear Parents,

After several conversations, the VP of French Toast / School Box has agreed to provide the following accommodations in an attempt to make amends for the tremendous inconvenience many of our families experienced during this uniform ordering period.

The accommodations are as follows:

  • Families will receive a 20% refund on any ordered items that were delayed (i.e. they were received after the promised date). Any shipping charges will also be refunded where applicable.
  • French Toast/ School Box will accept returns of any non-embroidered French Toast items (pants or skirts) that you ordered but did not receive in time for the start of school, thus causing families to go out and purchase these items from other retailers.  If you would like this option of returning the ordered items please follow the French Toast/ School Box return procedures found here:  www.frenchtoastschoolbox.com/return-policy
  • French Toast/School Box will replace any embroidered item that does not fit properly, free of charge.  The item that does not fit does not have to be returned to French Toast but should be turned in to Genesis.  Please contact Customer Service at 800-636-3104  to have your exchange processed so that the new size can be sent out to you.
  • Effective immediately, our online store has a 25% discount applied to all new sale orders going forward for a limited time.  Please be aware, however, that new orders will take 2 to 3 weeks to process.
  • All remaining orders placed in July, still not yet received, are now in a rush status.  If you still have not received an order placed before August 1st please contact French Toast/School Box customer service at 800-636-3104.  If dissatisfied with the response given, please email Genesis at info@giacademy.org to let us know.

Finally, we are close to securing a local vendor for those who wish to purchase uniforms going forward from a brick and mortar store, or who simply want to put a logo on uniform items purchased elsewhere.  We will let you know as soon as things are finalized with a local vendor.

While you are waiting to receive your official Genesis uniforms, please just have your scholar wear items as close to our uniform without purchasing anything extra. Please note however, that we are expecting all scholars to be in full uniform by September 5th, after which scholars not in uniform will be in violation of the dress code policy.

Thank you, everyone, for your patience as this all gets sorted out.

The following email was sent out 8/13/17:

Dear Genesis Families,

Updates for 8/13 are below:

Uniforms:

* Ordering - The VP of French Toast informed us they are rush processing the remaining uniform orders. They are also going to provide a package of discounts for new orders and refunds for parents who had to wait on existing orders. We will e-mail details separately and post to the website so that parents are clear on next steps regarding refunds and ordering.

* Dress Down/Class B Uniform - Please do not allow your 6th-grade scholar to dress down yet (Class B Uniform).  We will announce when dress down (class B Uniform) days will begin.

* General - Given the confusion with French Toast/School Box, we will announce when we expect all scholars to be in full uniform.  Parents should inform us if there is a financial hardship.

Nut Free
Genesis is a nut free campus (not just peanut free).  Several scholars are allergic to all nuts and a few have severe, life-threatening allergic reactions if they are near nuts.

Birthday Parties
Parents should not send food for birthday parties.  Many parents would not want their scholars eating food that they have not approved.  Food allergies and family dietary preferences are a major reason.  That is not something we want teachers to try to keep track of.  We thank you for your cooperation.

Parent Visits & Check-In
We need all parents to check in at the main office when they enter the campus. Please do not try to walk your scholars to class in the mornings. Parents who want to meet with a teacher have to schedule a meeting time in advance with that teacher.  We are asking parents to wait until the week of the 21st to observe their scholar's classroom.

The following email was sent out 8/9/17:

Hello Genesis Family,

A couple of updates:

Champions After School - We were informed by Champions that their on line portal to register and pay for after school is active again.  Parents have to register with Champions or they will have to pay a drop-in fee.  Also, if parents do not pay their fees in a timely fashion, they may not be allowed to register their scholar for after care in later weeks.  Note: Scholars are escorted to after care at dismissal only if they are on the registered list we get from Champions. After Care scholars have to be signed out by a parent.

Dismissal - 3 p.m. dismissal was done at 3:10 p.m. today.  That was pretty good.  4 pm dismissal ended at 4:22 (except for about 6 cars/vans).  We will keep trying to improve that time. Parents can help if they have their dismissal number in the car (or know it by heart). If you have not gotten your dismissal number, let your scholar's homeroom teacher know or email Mr. Christian at nchristian@giacademy.org. Also, if you are picking up a K-3 scholar at 4 p.m. with an older sibling, you do not have to place them in After-care with Champions. We can hold them in a "sibling room".  If they are in aftercare, they will not be sent to the dismissal line; parents will have to sign them out.

Early Dismissal - Parents need to inform the front desk in advance if they need to dismiss their scholar before the school day ends.  We are unable to process early dismissals after 2:15 p.m. since we will be preparing for regular dismissal.

Uniforms - Uniforms are now arriving for more families.  However, we know that many orders are still pending.  We have a meeting with a French Toast Vice-President on tomorrow to determine what can be done to make this situation better for families.

Handbook - We have had to make changes to the handbook given the realities of how we are operating. We hope to get the final version out to you by early next week.

The following email was sent out 8/7/17:

Good evening parents. Thank you for giving us the privilege of having your sons and daughters with us on day one of Genesis Academy.  Your children were amazing today!

A few day-one updates:

Drop-Off - We know parents are desperate to walk our youngest scholars to class on the first day, no matter what. We are hopeful that parents are now more comfortable dropping their scholars off.  We ask you to do so if at all possible to help make the morning line move more quickly.

Dismissal - We acknowledge the need to improve this process. We hope to give each family a number card tomorrow which will help us automate the process.  Note: The police and neighbors across the street have asked that you please not park in front of their houses.

Nut Free -  Genesis is a NUT FREE environment. We have several children who have severe, life-threatening nut allergies, so we ask that parents not send their children with any nut products for lunch or snack to avoid major issues.

Uniforms - The unbelievable saga with French Toast uniforms continues. A Vice-President within the French Toast / School Box organization now is flying in to deal with our back-order problem.  In the meantime, we continue to ask families to wear any uniform items they have. New families should not order from French Toast at this time. Please wear items similar to the uniform (gray or dark pants and polo style shirts).  We have contacted an alternate vendor in hopes that they can put our logo on uniforms.  We will keep you posted.

Thanks for a great Day One!

Dear Genesis Family,

We are all excited to welcome you and your scholars on Monday morning for what we expect to be a great beginning to a great year.

Below is a list of updates for day one/week one:

Uniforms

We are aware of the extensive delays being experienced with French Toast and the frustration that has caused several families who ordered uniforms in advance. We are looking to make changes.  While waiting for uniforms, dark (black/gray) bottoms and any polo-style shirt will be fine.

Regular Drop Off

We know that parents often want to walk their scholars in on the first day.  However, please understand that parking is very limited on site.  We are preparing for parents to drive up and drop-off their scholar. Genesis staff will escort/guide scholars to class on the first day.  We cannot guarantee that you will be able to park and walk your scholar in.  Open House was scheduled as an opportunity for you and your scholar to meet their homeroom teacher.

Regular Pick up

Our K-3 scholars dismiss at 3 p.m. and our grades 4-6 scholars dismiss at 4 p.m.  We will hold K-3 scholars who need to wait for an older sibling being dismissed at 4:00. Genesis staff members will walk the car line and signal to teachers to release children whose parents are waiting. We ask that parents picking up scholars for 4 p.m. dismissal to please enter the car line after 3:30 to avoid getting mixed in with the 3:00 p.m. dismissal.

Early Morning Care

Early morning care is not available on Monday.  We will have it available on Tuesday beginning at 6:30 a.m. The normal fee for a 5-day week is $25.  For a 4-day week, the fee is $20. Daily drop in rate is $8.

Nutrition/Breakfast/Lunch

Breakfast will be available from 7:15 to 7:45 am  for $1.75.  Lunch is available for $3.25.  Families may visit the Genesis website to set up a meal payment account with the Genesis food vendor, SLA Management. Scholars may bring their own lunch. However, please keep in mind that Genesis is a PEANUT-FREE campus.

Information about the Nutrition Program (menu, payments, free lunch application, etc.) can be found on our website: http://genesisinnovationacademy.org/index.php/about-us/student-life/gia-nutrition

(Note: Payment account set-up may not be available until late next week).

After-Care

After Care is available on Monday from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. for those who have registered with Champions, our After-care provider.  Parents should come into the cafeteria to pick up scholars from after-care by 6:00 pm

Important Dates

First Day of School
Great news! Your summer vacation has been extended a week! We have moved the first day of school to, Monday, August 7, 2017, to better align our calendar with the majority of metro-area districts.

Open House
The Open House provides a chance to meet teachers, see your classrooms, tour the school, and meet other members of our growing Genesis family. We will have staggered times based on grade in order to give everyone ample time to explore our campus.

  • Girls Academy will be on Wednesday, August 2nd.
  • 5:30 - 6:45 p.m. - Grades K-3
  • 6:45 - 8:00 p.m - Grades 4-6
  • Boys Academy will be on Thursday, August 3rd.
  • 5:30 - 6:45 p.m. - Grades K-3
  • 6:45 - 8:00 p.m. - Grades 4-6

If you have multiple students spanning different dates and times, just pick a day and time that works best for your family.  We look forward to seeing you.

School Supply Lists
School supply lists for all grades will be posted to the website by this weekend.

Volunteer Opportunities
Many of you have expressed your desire and availability to help out as we press forward with our opening.  Anyone interested in volunteering, please email volunteer@giacademy.org with your name, area of interest and times you are available.  We will have a coordinator contact you as projects come up.

After School Programs
We have partnered with the following vendors as it relates to After School Programs.

Champions:  Champions is an all encompassing after school program with indoor and outdoor activities, homework oversight, and tons of fun. Champions will be our main after school vendor available to our children every day. $59.00 per week from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm or $53 per week from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Chess Adventures:  Chess Adventures uses a wide range of instructional materials as well as highly experienced coaches and demonstrations that will give our scholars a thorough understanding of the game of chess. Chess adventures will be offered to all grade levels one day a week. Fee TBA

Our after school vendors will be available at our open house to give an overview of their program, answer questions and sign you up if you so desire.

Additional information regarding other after school partnerships will be forthcoming.

Uniforms
The initial uniform sale has been extended for another week, until July 16, 2017.

Some have inquired about a local uniform vendor.  This initial year we have partnered with French Toast / School box because they were able to guarantee the large number of uniforms we would need for this initial start up year.  We will evaluate our uniform vendors and procedures each year to make sure we are providing you, our parents, with the best options available.

Information Session Video
Finally, many were not able to attend our information sessions when we held them over the past few months.  As promised we will soon make available on our website a video version of the information session that you can hear and share with others.  Stay tuned.

The online portion of the registration was due on May 15, 2017.

All physical documents, listed on the website, are due by this Friday, June 2, 2017. http://genesisinnovationacademy.org/index.php/admissions/register,

After the June 2, 2017, deadline, families on the waitlist will be offered the slots of families who have not completed their registration.

Please be sure to complete your registration by June 2, 2017, to ensure you do not lose your accepted scholar's position.

Parent Orientation

Our Parent Orientation is this Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 9:00 am at Church of Atlanta Lighthouse, located at the corner of Custer Ave and Boulevard, right down the street from the school. (please note: If using GPS to locate the church, use the church name in your GPS instead of the address.  Many reported their GPS sent them in the wrong direction when plugging in the church address during our last information session.)

Please Note: The Parent Orientation presentation will start promptly at  9:00 am and last approximately one hour, followed by question and answer session if needed.

Parent Update Emails

Please keep in mind that our primary way of communication with our families is via email.

Please note: All parent update emails, such as this one, are posted on the website.  Just click on the orange bar at the top of the Home page.

Please also note: Families with a Gmail email address will notice that often the Genesis emails wind up under the Promotions tab.  You can drag Genesis emails to the Priority tab to notify Gmail that Genesis emails are a priority.

New round of Acceptance and Waitlist letters

For families that have applied after May 11, 2017, the next round of Acceptance and Waitlist emails will be going out in the next couple of days.  Please watch your inbox.

Hello Genesis Families,

Here are just a few Genesis updates to keep the lines of communication flowing.

Parent Orientation

In our last communication we asked you to save the date of June 3, 2017, for our Parent Orientation.  The orientation will be at 9:00 am on June 3, 2017, at the Church of Atlanta Lighthouse* located at 1380 Boulevard, SE Atlanta 30315. (right down the street from the school at the corner of Custer and Boulevard)  This will be a joint session for both schools,  however parents of our Boys Academy scholars will have an additional brief session immediately following.

Registration

Thanks to everyone who has completed the first part of Registration.  If anyone has experienced difficulty with the online portion of Registration please let us know immediately.

Some of you have expressed difficulty in obtaining the GTID# for your scholar.  If you are experiencing this difficulty, please submit your form without the GTID# and we will work with the school to obtain the information.

Residency

It is no longer necessary to have an Affidavit of Residency.  Just include two documents as proof of residency when submitting your Legal Identification Documents.

Office Hours for Step 3 Registration

We have office hours at the school site in order to receive your physical documents.  Our Registration office hours, listed below, are also posted on the website.

Tuesday and Thursday 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm

*Friday June 2nd  8:00 am - 6:00 pm (Deadline for all physical forms)

We are hopeful that these hours will accommodate your busy schedules, however, if you need to bring documents at an alternate time please don't hesitate to contact us.

Information Session

Our May 20, 2017, Information Session has been moved to a larger venue so that we can accommodate the overwhelming response.  Please RSVP on the website (if you have not already done so) and join us this Saturday at 10:00 am at the Church of Atlanta Lighthouse*, 1380 Boulevard, SE.  The church has been gracious in their hospitality towards us.  Please note that on this date, they too will be hosting an event on their church grounds.  Please give your attention to their attendants as they provide parking instructions for Genesis Info Session attendees.

*Please Note: In past Genesis meetings we have provided refreshments.  However, with the upcoming Information Session and Parent Orientation, no refreshments will be served as we will be using the church sanctuary where food and drink are prohibited.  Thank you in advance for your understanding.

The following email was sent out 5/4/17:

Hello Parents,

We have a few important updates that we are happy to provide to you today:

1. Grants for Programs

Great news! We received confirmation that the Federal Implementation Grant will be distributed this year.  The exact amount has not been specified, but it is in the six figures.  This would allow us to fully implement all of our technology programs, get everyone trained, and provide better classroom resources for students and teachers. This is a big deal!

2. Registration is Here!

We took some time to revise our registration system to make it a little easier for parents. Most of the process can now be completed on-line for your convenience.  On-line forms are due by May 15. If you are the parent of an accepted student and do not receive a registration e-mail by Thursday, May 4th please contact us.  Parents who need hard copies of registration forms should let us know.

3. Building Renovations

Renovations are moving along well.  We are hoping to begin skeleton operations at the school starting next week (May 8) if the Fire Marshall gives the okay.  We will keep you posted.

4. Parent Orientation

Save the date! We have scheduled Parent Orientation for accepted scholars for Saturday, June 3rd.  Our hope is to avoid all the graduation weekends in May and catch parents before they leave for any summer break plans. We are planning for an early morning start but the exact time and location will be communicated later.

5. Acceptance Notification

If you applied for admissions after April 17th and have not received an acceptance or waitlist letter, you should receive that notification by the end of this week.

6. Information Session

The next information session is scheduled for Saturday, May 20th at 10:00 a.m.  We know that many graduations are occurring on that day, but there are not many good options left in the school year. We are still working on alternate ways of providing information to parents who cannot attend. Please be sure to RSVP on the Web site.

7. Uniforms

Our uniform vendor will be French Toast. We chose them with parents in mind.  They are professional, offer discounts, allow parents to order on-line and have items delivered to your home, and some of their items can be found in local department stores at a lower cost.  A price list with instructions will be sent soon.

We will post this e-mail to our website and update the relevant pages.  Thank you for your patience and please reach out if you have questions.

The following email was sent out 4/11/17:

Hello Parents,

We wanted to give you updates on a few things and let you know the Genesis movement is growing.

Genesis in the Press – Genesis is highlighted in this month’s VMH magazine in a feature article (page 24) in which the importance of preparing our scholars for greatness is discussed. If you have not seen it, the link is below and is also on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. Please spread the word:

https://issuu.com/vmhmagazine/docs/vmh_magazine_-_april_2017

Information Session – Due to continuing overwhelming response, we had to close registration for our Information Session this Saturday, April 15th.  Based on a parent’s suggestion, we are going to create an on-line presentation so all interested families can watch and share the Genesis message.

Enrollment – We are still accepting applications, but many of our grades are now full and additional applicants are being wait-listed.  If you have friends or colleagues looking for educational options for their children, let them know to apply as soon as possible.

Registration – For those of you who have already applied and been accepted, look for an e-mail containing information about Registration documents in the next couple of weeks.  The documents are required to lock down your spot and to give us important information to help us better serve your child.

After School Programs – As we are building a roster of options for after school programming, we know that many parents have had experience with great providers in the past. Please feel free to send us contacts for those programs and we will try and add them to our portfolio. Info@GIAcademy.org.

We will send additional updates soon regarding other aspects of our progress.

Thank you for your continued support!
