Physical Education Teacher/Fitness Teacher

Genesis charges PE/Health faculty with developing and executing instructional plans that facilitate scholar mastery of standards related to health, coordination, game play and sports. Genesis also charges PE/Health faculty with inspiring scholars to apply science standards in pursuit of optimal physical fitness. Instructional activities should also incorporate review of math standards (e.g. sports statistics, fitness progression) when possible and appropriate. The PE/Health-Fitness instructor should be comfortable overseeing sports-fitness activities for large groups of scholars.

Specific Responsibilities

In collaboration with instructional team, faculty members will:

  • Develop and execute instructional plans to ensure scholar mastery of PE-Health standards
  • Develop and execute plan to track and improve scholar fitness
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and meet IEP and SST expectations
  • Ensure scholars are continuously engaged in meaningful work and activity
  • Assess scholar progress to drive changes to curriculum and instruction
  • Implement school-wide behavior support process to create a positive learning environment
  • Communicate proactively and effectively with students, families, and colleagues
  • Participate in an annual two-week summer orientation and training
  • Participate in grade-level activities, and school-wide functions

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, certification, or evidence of high skill level in health-fitness related field
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and communication skills
  • Evidence or references indicating ability to oversee activities for a large group of boys/girls 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing instructional plans
  • Passion for coaching youth sports
  • High comfort level with technology and use of data
  • Experience working with urban populations
