Special Education Teacher
Under the direction of the Special Education Coordinator, the special education teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supplied with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Manage caseload of special education students
- Collaborate with students, parents, teachers,staff, and consultants to develop IEPs
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to integrate accommodations and into regular lesson planning and curricula
- Work cooperatively teachers or record to deploy a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of assigned special needs students
- Consult with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to IEP
- Participate in IEP meetings as needed
- Demonstrate knowledge of specialized methodology for teaching students with disabilities
- Compile and maintain accurate Special Education records and files
- Conduct assessments as needed for special education eligibility
- Assess, monitor and report progress toward IEP Goals and Objectives
- Complete all activities required for compliance with IDEA
- Submit required reports and documentation to administration
- Support students and parents with student placement, curriculum, and instructional issues
- Keep detailed documentation from parent/student conferences
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Special Education Certification
- Working knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations
